Heres the rundown - Bebo has promised his boat to the Boy Scouts for an outing next weekend. I think we are REALLY close to firing it but need help figuring out the wiring. I have looked through the site, but don't see (or maybe dont understand) one that fits our scenario.

The motor is a BBC. We are not running an alternator for now because we cannot get one to fit with the rail kit/motor plates and the logs which angle downward. We have a Mallory Pro Comp 9000 dizzy which has a three wire connector on it. W have a 6AL box but are not running it for now due to time constraints and figuring out a mounting method .


The wiring harness seems complete from the dash to the terminal block. Any help is greatly appreciated. We are going to bust our butts tomorrow to make this happen for him.

I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but....

It is really quite simple to get it wired to run.

The ignition switch should have a wire attached that says (I) on the switch (normally a purple wire). The (I) stands for ignition....This goes to both the positive (+) terminal on the ignition coil and the red wire on the distributor.
then on the negative side of the ignition coil will go to the green wire on the distributor.
There should be a tan wire (maybe dark brown) and that should go to a good ground.
Be sure to install a ballast resistor in series with the ignition wire coming from the dash before it goes to the ignition coil, voltage should be approximately 8VDC.

You will probably want to run a ballast resistor bypass for starting, this is simply a light gauge wire (like 14 ga.) from the (I) terminal on the starting solenoid to the positive terminal of the ignition coil (making it three wires attached to that particular terminal....

An electronic ignition needs battery juice to keep the spark going...as long as the motor is running its going to take power from the battery...eventually the boat will lose power because the battery is being drained...then its going to completely peter out...it took alot of effort for me to get an alt to work with my motor plates, but I made it happen...i would strongly advise an altenator...if you were running a magneto it might be a different story

I understand what you are saying. We have been trying to find a way to mount one. We may end up with a different exhaust system right away so that we can find the room to mount one.

We did see a really bitchin low forward mount bracket at a boat shop near our house, but it will not let the front cover go on. Too dangerous to leave that way.

It would be tight time wise, but I would love to see that happen. Bebo just went to bed. He put in a 12 hour day today and was more than a little bummed that we did not turn it over. Here is a pic of the front motor plate and the logs. Not much room there. This may all be changing. We had some major problems that depending on the cause and or resolution may change. Will put up new post describing that shortly.
