Looking for that last bit of HP. What are your opinions on me enlarging or just removing that plate with the flange. The difference in size looks to be quite a bit. 454 .030 over, 049 heads, larger valves,

I don't think a difference (a positive one anyway) will be realized.

I was under the impression that bigger is better when it comes to exhaust in marine applications. Can you elaborate GT? I'm learning.

I believe that plate creates an eddy that enhances flow and improves scavenging.
Those anti reversion rings help keep exhaust pulse down, controlling water reversion, but more importantly, helps equalize the exhaust pressure from cylinder to cylinder.
If it was me personally, I would keep them. Now if you were supercharged or turbocharged, different argument all together.
Could be FOS.
