Title: FLAME ARRESTORS

You guys ever heard of an motor out performing and flame arrestor :screwy: well here it is, the one on my boat is new the motor was only making 4500 rpms @ 70 mph something not right so going through the motor checking for problems nothing so i pull off the flame arrestor off and run the boat now its at 5100 rpms any ideas.

Very common, they make HP flame arrestors that are way larger and more open than others, the one we used on the raceboat was good for 800 plus HP (1000 CFM) but cost like $300, it was about 10" in diameter and 5" high, was aluminum and made of wire mesh, not the expanded metal stuff..We ran a sock over it too (some rivers are dusty)...

this has me curious... What type of flame arrestor was on the boat?  I have a Hardin scoop and a Hardin flame arrestor and now I am wondering if I remove it if I could see the same type of results.

A little different for me 550 hp 850 carb BBF its making more hp and whats more fuel then the flame arrestor will flow air just my o2.

when i had the boat, i only used paper filters so i would'nt know....nice save though brian!
