Put the second one on the stand, ....flip it over and pull off the high dollar Dooley oil pan..........looks good, save for one thing I'll post pics of in a minute. ... there's this pump/pickup dealio.........can someone explain to me why the fock anyone would do this on a fresh build...........

Looks functional to me. Indeed, it's not particularly pretty but I'll take "function" over "form" any day.
That's a Dooley pickup, by the way. It appears to be the one originally intended for an M84BHV front sump pump,
but then someone cut off the pickup's pump mating flange and welded the press-in pump's pickup fitment in its place.
The funny thing is that Dooley already makes a pickup for the press-in pumps, but even though that's the case this
modified one has a nice feature that the Dooley version does not
: the support bracket which secures the pickup to
the pump body. It might not be a pretty weld or a detailed bracket, but the pickup sure as hell ain't going anywhere
since it's secured in place.

, and yes, some custom fab work looks better (or worse) than others. What matters most is
how well it serves its purpose.
