ok so on my 18' challenger i have a ford 390 with a holley 650cfm 4 barrel carb... edlbrock logs and snails.... running on 87 gas... at full throttle in going 50-55 mph at 4000rpm

my question, does this sound right??? or is there something wrong?

Well a Jacuzzi WJ "B" cut acts like a Berk/Dom "A" and WJ "A" is more like a Berk/Dom "AA" , so you guys arent too far off , the jet (if in good shape internally) will limit you Motor /rpms back to actual power made heres a portion of a Dominator chart to help some  Tom

I ran the 390 FE in my F- Service boat, I believe the crate engine from Ford was 375 HP. We used to turn the engine 6000 rpm during marathons thru  V DRIVE.

IMO Jet Trim (Place diverter)  is always a "hands down" "Bang for buck" winner , has little actual effect on engine/jet operation but will allow "attitude adjustment " , reduce wetted surface and act on the hull to improve you boats ride and handling and speed Tom
