ok so on my 18' challenger i have a ford 390 with a holley 650cfm 4 barrel carb... edlbrock logs and snails.... running on 87 gas... at full throttle in going 50-55 mph at 4000rpm
my question, does this sound right??? or is there something wrong?
oo and its a pretty stock motor.. just rebuilt... has little hours on it...

much more info would be helpfull re the engine but for now what would you estimate the horse power of the 390 fe to be and what Impeller is in the jet ? Tom
-
the impeler i have no idea.. its a wj jacuzzi... stock i think.. and horse power?? ummm no idea... around 250 or more.. im not sure

I have the same engine in my boat stock 390 600 carter carb and berk pump. My numbers are close to yours execpt i can't break the 50mph mark yet ;)but I am also at 7000ft.

Well a Jacuzzi WJ "B" cut acts like a Berk/Dom "A" and WJ "A" is more like a Berk/Dom "AA" , so you guys arent too far off , the jet (if in good shape internally) will limit you Motor /rpms back to actual power made heres a portion of a Dominator chart to help some Tom
H.P. 9.5 9.25 AA A B
200 HP 3200 3350 3500 4000 4200
250 HP 3450 3600 3700 4300 4500

THANK YOU...
ALSO I AM PUTTING A PLACE DIVERTOR ON THE PUMP(NEW STYLE).. WILL THAT DO ANYTHING FOR ME???

I ran the 390 FE in my F- Service boat, I believe the crate engine from Ford was 375 HP. We used to turn the engine 6000 rpm during marathons thru V DRIVE.

IMO Jet Trim (Place diverter) is always a "hands down" "Bang for buck" winner , has little actual effect on engine/jet operation but will allow "attitude adjustment " , reduce wetted surface and act on the hull to improve you boats ride and handling and speed Tom

thats another question i have... with the divertor how do you driver with it..
like when the diverter is up(rooster tail) what will that do for the boat..
and when its down, what will it do???
