Hey Guys,
Its been a while since Ive been on here. The engine has been down since June last year. I finally got some money together to get her going again and I'm trying to figure out what route to go and need your guys' opinion. The block is a 460 with casting # D1VE its currently bored .030 over and is going to need bored/honed/magged to work again. Is the block worth salvaging or should I look into getting a new block or motor all together. My dumba$$ also managed to throw away the stock rods and pistons :banghead: :banghead:. I was figuring that if it is a good block and worth salvaging that I would probably get a decent set of h-beam rods and decent pistons (unless it would be a waste of money). I know the motor is going to put out any crazy hp. Im not running a blower or charger or nos so would the h-beams be necessary? Thanks for any input.

Robert,
- How much horsepower do you want your new engine to have?
- Must this engine run on 91 octane pump gas?
- Do you have OT headers or thru-transom logs?
- What is the pump brand and impeller size?
If you answer the above questions I'd be happy to tell you which OEM parts you can use and also make some build suggestions.

not too sure on how much hp. didnt necessarily have a goal in mind. I have currently been running it on 91 octane and would like to keep it that way if possible...so would my wallet ;D. It has thru transom headers. the pump is a berk with an a cut impellar. its also running an offy tunnel ram and a race demon 950cfm carb. any .02 you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Well based on the runnel ram, thru-transom tubular headers, and the fact that you have D0VE heads, I'd say that you could very easily build a reliable 450-500hp long block for almost as cheap as a bone stock rebuild. I assume you already have roller rockers, etc if you have D0VE heads. Of course, a LOT more power is possible with your parts but the expenses go up. (Are the D0VE heads ported? If not, then I have a nicely ported pair fully machined and ready to bolt on and may accept you heads as a core exchange.)
Provided you select a lightweight piston and keep rpms below 5500, the OEM rods should be fine . Block bored 0.060" overbore not a problem at all for 500 hp. Sounds like a matter of just an overbore, pistons, balance, bearings, gaskets, a camshaft/lifter selection, and perhaps a valve job (etc)...plus the odds and ends depending on condition of current parts . If you are racing then the rods should be upgraded.
Give me a call or PM me again and we'll discus exactly what you want to get from your engine build and I'll point you in the right direction. havea pen and paper handy where you call.

Well after spending some time today tearing down the rest of the block and checking it out it looks like I need a new block now too :banghead: :banghead:. Im pretty sure that this hole is not supposed to be there....

I think I need an eye exam... 8)
What hole? The only hole I can make out is the distributor gear cutout...... :screwy:
Help me out.... :-\

The "hole" next to the distributor thrust boss is just an unmachined area of the cylinder block casting....it is supposed to be. 8)
Nice to know you torn it completely down. I will be in your neighborhood the weekend after next (27-28) if that works for you. And if you happen to need a D1VE block, I'll GIVE you one. :)

Oh okay cool. I thought that that was letting water into the block and mixing with the oil. It looked as though the block had actually been broken right there because of the jagged edges on it.

Oh and yes Paul weekend after next will definitely work. ;D

bertus, you will be well educated when Paul leaves your house

Awesome!! I am definitely looking forward to it. I have basic mechanical knowledge but there is always room to learn more thats for sure.

If done properly, you will be able to say those exact words for the rest of your life....
Meaning; My dad used to tell me (actually still does), "the day you don't learn something new is a wasted day"... 8)

Got the donor motor last week finally and got her dropped in. Got everything bolted up and running...now just to tune the carb :banghead: :banghead: Here are a couple of pics of the motor dropped in. I think she looks pretty sexy. I just cant wait to be back out on the water ;D. Oh and I had looked up all of my posts to find some of my really old posts and I just wanted to say sorry for some of the rude comments I had left. Honestly I must have been hammered when I posted them cause I didnt even know that I posted them till I saw it.
