How far from transom to locate engine?

How do you determine how far from the transom to locate your engine and how is it measured? Inner transom to engine block? To crank flange? Pto?

Combo in question is 500lb tx19 700+ hp aspirated, up to 1000 with bottle eventually. Have to keep a backseat in it too. Standard intake (not low pro) with dominator pump, has dons ratchet (adds 3" or something to length of pump where driveline mounts)

Jim should come to the rescue, I believe my 18 is 26 inches to back of motor plate and my back seat fits fine #familyboatproblems

From the transom to where your plates bolt up. I think 26 to 28 would be fine.

Right on, so do you have an actual driveshaft in yours? Meaning not
Just the standard driveline with the u joints bolted back to back or whatever?

What do you guys think the benefits would be of having the engine moved forward or rearward in the hull?

It's all about the balance of the hull. That's just a number I've seen and herd from past gulwings and v bottoms with a good amount of hp.

Some tunnels you'll see a bit farther forward. My swtd was at 28 and the placecraft is at 30

Nice! Are you running the 1350 u joints?

Do you know how much longer the HTP ratchet makes the pump? Or how much you would shorten an existing driveshaft?

What you're creating sounds pretty similar to my program (boat type, boat weight, engine HP) and I think mine is 26" from transom to back of motor where the rear engine plates are.

My 18 is at 25 1/4, transom to back of motor. Standard Berk intake, Jetaway and 1350 driveline. When I added the Jetaway and the 1350, I had to move the rear seat forward and now there's only 6" of legroom. Still enough room for the ice chest.

Nice, ice chest is key though! Lol. So your at 25-1/4 with the jetaway and 1350 right? I'm hoping if I go around 26" like everyone is saying that my 9year old will be able to comfortably ride in the rear seat. Hopefully for a few more years too
