ok this might  be a stupid  question but i  found a pretty  good  deal on a  rebuilt   ford  460  does  anyone   know if  all   ford  460 have a  4 bolt main ?

The biggest concern is your piston to cylinder wall clearance. We usually run .003 more in a marine application. I have seen quite a few guys run automotive clearances and get away with it, but I don't recomend it.

Since it's a fresh rebuild you had better make sure it was rebuilt for a marine application and not for a car or truck, otherwise it won't last you very long at all. 

ok i picked up the motor . it was  super clean .  i met the  guy    who    built  the motor at the   machine shop . the motor was   supposed to  go into  a hot rod  but  he  ended  up not needed  it  he said he went  throught the  whole  engine     you can tell  everything inside the  motor was  new  i think i  got a  good deal for   500 bucks. the last motor  i had  got water in   we are not sure how my friend said  it came in thorought the  exhaust  flap  when iwas   backing the   boat up to  fast . the  guy said  who i  bought the motor from  said it should be  fine  in my  boat because he built the motor  for a  hot rod   
i guess only time will  tell. worst case it  last me  a  season and ill have all winter to rebuild it . i dont plan on  running the  engine to hard 

ill have it  in the boat  by this  saturday  hopefully ill  p ost a video of it once i  get it   running

how did you  get water in your oil ?

A friend of mine had a lot of engine work done on his Elininator by a marine jet drive pro. The mech installed a water control valve next to the driver's seat. Whenever his engine is below 2000 RPM he shuts the valve off.

I've also seen, with success, a water pressure regulator on the engine's water inlet from the jet drive. I've heard jet pumps put out about 200 - 300 psi, cars only have ...? what 14 lbs @ 200 degree's.

My Roger's, if I ever get started on it, is going to have thr-transom exhaust for the kid's sake. I'm going to use a water pressure reg. on the engine. Home Depot.

ok  the motor is  finally in the boat  ready to go

we tried to start the motor last night but  i think  my  carb   needs to  be  rebuilt  because its  just   dumping   fuel  and   fluding   out the motor  so im going to   get a  new one  today  along with   with  a  new  distributor and see if   i can  get it  to fire

the timing  seems to be  set    right   

is there any thing else i should look  at

they are both right they did not have 4 bolt mains in either the only dif between a 429 and 460 is on the crank

Don't those two above statements say exactly the same thing about 460's?

I have two D0VE blocks.  The one currently in the boat has a two bolt main.  The SCJ block sitting on my stand has a stock 4 bolt main.
