Assuming you're talking about the Edelbrock, was Weber and before that a Carter AFB? the two screws in the front of the carb are idle mix adjustment, In my experience, all of the Edelbrock AFB style carbs run very lean out of the box.

If you have a Carter Strip Kit, very easy to tune, most of the tuning can be done with smaller metering rods and can be done without really pulling the carb down like a Holley, but may have to start with bigger jets to get you close. Probably one of the most tune freindly carbs around.
