just your basic 92-97cc chamber, pedestal rocker, nothing special but can be made to work. i have a set on my liberty

I run them on my boat and it goes 85 mph w/o shoe or ride plate...my D3VE heads have been modified quite a bit though.
You don't necessarily need to go max effort with them to make good power, but you need to do at least a few specific things and use them in the right engine combination.

The D3VE head is a lot like a D0VE head but with the combustion chamber sunken 0.100" further into the head, hence the 97cc combustion chamber volume vs. the D0VE's 77cc combustion chamber volume. The valve train is different too, but that's about it.
Porting is very similar to how one may port a D0VE head, but with some detailed differences due to the slight differences in port design, particularly the exhaust port.
As far as specific D3VE head mods: bowl blending on the intake and bowl blending/short turn radius/smog bump removal on the exhaust port makes for a fine cylinder head to about 450-500 hp depending on particulars. More is possible with valve train mods. In short, a .030-overbore 460 with flat top pistons and D3VE's will net a pump gas friendly 9.5:1 and make plenty of power for the majority of boaters out there.
I've got a backburner project where I am trying to break 700 hp with a pair of D3's. ;)

So say you took that .030 d3 headed 9.5:1 and put a set of D0OVE heads on instead , how much of a compression boost would there be?

Compression ratio jumps to around 11.4:1.

I am fine with that!! I think it will be worth it!! The heads are already on there way , atleast now I know what I got myself into. ;D I already have the tunnel ram now I just need a nice fat cam! The heads are fully ported and polished.

The above calculated compression ratio assumes 75cc chamber, 4 cc valve relief, 0.041" head gasket, and piston about 0.010" in the hole.
Are you certain that you have flat top pistons? Piston deck height varies big time between piston manufacturers, assuming all other dimensions remain the same....for example, unless you've decked your block the Speed-Pro/TRW forged pistons can leave you about 0.040" in the hole which, at 11:1, can minimize quench effectiveness so greatly that the lack of squish will have quite an influence on detonation control (unless you are running race gas).
There are several ways around this; what brand pistons (and p/n) are in your engine?

one thing anyone knows about a 460 is ya have to let those babys breeaath first rule have good headers for them youl get better out of the hole shots and high end performance
