Help 460 fuel pump

I need some Help with my fuel pump.  Looks like I'm getting black rubber or something coming from it.  Not good.
Do I need a marine fuel pump or will a electric or regular manual one work.  Need your help...    ;D

If electric what kind and what about marine.

I always recommend going marine where possible, not always easy. Theoretically it is not 100% necessary on an open engine set up, but closed it is an absolute must.....

Electrics work pretty well but there are some things to consider. You have extra wiring and an extra load on the electrical system, so your alternator size (amperage) needs to be considered. It is one more parasitic draw on the electrical system and will become an issue only if you have a charging system problem.
There are some plumbing concerns also. Many times a high performance electric fuel pump needs to be regulated, so the cost of the extra parts needs to be taken into consideration.

For your 460, I would recommend getting in touch with Clay Smith Cams (Mr. Horsepower) and finding out some information on their fuel pumps (mechanical), I have heard nothing but good things from them here on the boards....

Good luck and don't overlook the potentially flawed fuel supply lines and a good filter system is a must.

this is what i run on the race boat...its never given me a peep of a problem. just make sure your water blockoff plate bolts arent too long  O0

Thanks, I'll stick with the Mechanical and new lines.  I already have filter but it is before the pump and I believe the rubber is coming from the pump?

If your pump is falling apart...replace your pump. I have a carter marine (5-6 1/2lbs bout 42gph)on mine vented to the arrester.

i wouldnt worry about the marine aspect with a mechanical fuel pump.

I have a Holley red mechanical and it works great ......Too good .....

Purchased a Carter pump with a vent (marine).  Can I run the vent line back to the fuel filter or does it have to go to the tank?

I run the vent line along the fuel up to the arrestor...Its a tight bend right by the head so zip tie it to the fuel line to keep it away from the heat.

Just so you know exactly what the "vent" is for.....The Carter marine fuel pump has two diaphragms, the second is there to literally keep the fuel contained in case the first fails and the vent is there to literally pump the fuel that would normally get sprayed all over the place (in this case the bilge) into the carburetor to kill the engine, or at least make it run like crap so you will be forced to take a look see.....

Great choice IMHO, be advised also that the pump is "clockable" meaning you can change where the in and outs end up.
