Title: Ford starter bolts?
Post by: hotrod56cars on March 22, 2008, 09:26:02 AM
So today I'm going to start working on the Southwind. It's got a 460 in it and the starter has been removed. I know that Olds and Chevy V8's use special starter bolts with knurls on the shank, do Ford 460's use special starter bolts and if they do what do they look like? Thanks.

Hi Rod,

They or mine were just regular bolts, one was bigger than the other.  One went into the block and the other into the bell housing.  I don't remember the size, just that hey are standard threads.

Hey FM, Don't be sorry to chime in, that's why we ask questions.  Someone always has an answer, now we aren't saying that answers are always right but in time the information gets corrected and passed on.   >:D   Welcome to the forum.  I think mine were like you described but had to replace them and I just bought hardened bolts and put a lock washer behind them.

Rod,  Just go to Auto Zone or whatever you like to shop and they can get your set up.  Greg

I used "regular" bolts a while ago. Thanks for the replies.
