I ran my motor yesterday after it being parked for two weeks. It burped and poured fuel from the air filter. I took the filter off to see what was going on and I noticed that it was leaking a lot of fuel from the fuel bowl vent on the primary side. Only as I turned the ignition to acc. And ran the fuel pump. It's a Holley 750 vac sec on my BBC. I'm thinking I need to replace the gaskets on the metering block, but unsure so I just want to double check before going into it. Your float is most likely stuck...probably some crud in the needle n seat keeping the float from coming up

X2 on Nordie's answer. If you do not find crud in the needle and seat, needle and seat may need to be replaced. If you replace the needle and seat and still have a problem, float could be bad. In any case, fuel cannot leak out of the vent tube unless the fuel level in the carburetor is too high. Assuming the carburetor is right side up anyway.

The needle and seat are right below that on the inside of the bowl...it would be a good idea for a full carb teardown...chances are theres crud elsewhere too...i had an issue with some teflon breaking away from the threads and would either get in the primary jets and needle and seat

do i need new gaskets if i tear it down again? i had just rebuilt it maybe 6 months ago, but im sure there could have been enough gunk in my tanks to clog stuff up (hadnt run for about 5 years before this season)

I would invest in a shitload of fuel filters or remove tanks and clean them...just get a vac. Secondary rebuild kit...it will have everything you need...once you rebuild a holley and see exactly how easy it is it will never be a big deal again...for the record the blue gaskets are reusable...whatever surface they stay on leave em there

i had siphoned out the fuel, refilled it at the pump, poured some seafoam cleaner stuff into it and ran that, it probley dislodged something along the way. im saving up right now to upgrade my fuel lines to stainless steel braided lines and upgrade my pump. definetley going to get a fuel filter i can clean out. the tanks are glassed in so im not....My boyfriend has lost his freaking mind!!!!! Anyhow, I wouldn't suggest the braided upgrade. It costs a ton of cash and is really not necessary. If you have dirty tanks that can't be easily cleaned, I would use the braided line money to buy a fuel filter that spins on like an oil filter. 30-75 micron. Replace it more often than you need to and go have a great time with the boat.
As for the float, smack the bowl adjuster a few times with the plastic end of a screw driver. If that doesn't fix it follow Nordies recommendation.

X2. The "rap"id realignment works well in most cases. ON the other issue Ron brings up, I've been a big fan of "you can't over-filter" and as such, have become acustomed to running filters before the pump, AFTER the pump, as well as leaving the sintered bronze Holley filters in place in the fuel bowls (Most remove them thinking it helps "flow" Bwah hah hah). But that's me. I've fueled my boats many times on the lakes and rivers here, and you can have the cleanest tanks on the planet only to be farfenuegn'ed with one fill up......... :thumbup:

My girlfriends had enough of my staring into the computer reading forums hehe. Thanks for the info I'll try the screwdriver trick and see if that helps. Got nit on getting more filters. I'm guessing a parts dealer other than auto zone etc will have a screw on filter sweeeeeeet
