Title: Fuel Injection
Post by: tryklon on March 31, 2010, 10:28:36 PM
Hey fellas,
Looking into a way to keep the Family boat running more consisntent, I have an edelbrock marine 1410 carb that is fairly new, its doing the job, but just seems to constantly need adjusting  :banghead: Could just be me...maybe I just dont have the mixture quite right :screwy:

What do you guys think of the Fast EZ-EFI???

The biggest hurdle is the 02 sensor....I think all of the Fast EZ's use a wide band 02.....Can be made to work on a boat, but a biatch...

If you really want EFI, I would recommend an open loop system, they can be had pretty cheap and work "OK"...

If think a carb is tempermental, wait until you start playing with the adjust-ability of an EFI system... :screwy:

I have an older Air Flow Research system on my motorhome, I love it....However, thinking about upgrading to an Arizona Speed Marine closed loop ECM to utilize an 02 sensor.. ;)

I've been running an Arizona Speed and Marine EFI for 4 or 5 years--first on my boat and most recently on my son's Sanger mini cruiser jet. We loved it--improved throttle response, improved fuel economy (25%-30% at cruising speed), something different than most jet boats, and auto adjustment as we boat between valley lakes (less than 1000') and Shaver Lake (5,500'). Although I bought the system--intake, injectors, wire harness, ecu, and cam--for about $1200, the extra costs included roller lifters/rockers, high pressure fuel pump, return fuel system, and misc stuff easily doubled that price. But still, it was worth it. If anyone is interested in buying a system, I could be persuaded to sell it--intake for rectangle port BBC heads. Son is building a new procharger EFI BBC for his boat, and it looks like I might be driving a Ferd--at least for this coming season.

Here's a pic of what it looks like.

I have a fast efi on my boat. I must say its 10 times better than carbs. I don't have any issues with the wide bad 02 so I don't know what gt is talking about.Closed loop is way better, aka full sequential than open loop. you cant run water in your exhaust tho. Personally its the best way to go to get the maxim performance out of all motors. It can do things a carb motor and mechanical fi can only dream of. Its is very pricy. I think I spent around $5000 for the ecu, wire harness, fast duel sync dizzy, fuel pump, reg, and injectors. There was a ton of other things I had to buy as well. It is a very complicated system to tune So have a professional tune it if you don't know how. The great thing is once you have it tuned you never have to touch it again, turn key and no maintainence unlike carbs. I  can ramble on for ever about EFI. if you have any questions let me know. Ive learned everything there is to know about fast xfi in a bbc jet boat. EFI, Also known to others as fuel infection.

ROMPERSTOMPER, the reason you are not having o2 problems is dry exhaust, most boats run wet which=no bueno....Nice setup BTW.

I am running Accel Thruster EFI. Blown BBC with bugcatcher. Many home made parts.
See signature for buildup.

Thanks GT. Nice ride yourself. I didn't think It was possible to run a 02 with water injection. The water will cool the exhaust b4 the 02 can read it so it would never be accurate, and that's the most important sensor to be off. That's half the reason I went with dry exhaust, that and my cam is so big that my motor will suck water into the cylinders in between the compression stroke and exhaust stroke causing major issues. I'm sure the 02 wont last very long with constant water spraying on it. All though Ive heard leaded race gas eats up the 02 sensor pretty fast as well. Not a big deal because I'm switching over to E85 before this season starts. More hp, a lot less $$$$$$ on fuel. I spent $340 to fill my boat and 2 gas cans witch will last about a half day on the river. :banghead: :screwy:
