Title: Fuel pressure problems....
Post by: Nixonnow on April 21, 2012, 07:30:06 PM
I have a mechanical Holley fuel pump feeding a 750 double pumper Holley. I have an inline gauge on the fuel rail and at idle it reads 10-12 psi. Isn't it supposed to be more like 6-7 psi? I won't idle and I'm assuming this is why. Too much pressure. Should I put a fuel pressure regulator on it? And if so which one?

I was looking at this one. Whatcha think? Thanks.

Oh.... And what confuses me is the boat idled and ran fine all last summer with no fuel regulator. Brand new carb as of early summer last year. I'm lost.

You want about 6 max for a normal stock/mild motor. With ten to twelve all you are doing is pushing fuel past the needle and seat and that is what is more than likely causing your idling issues.

I'm not going to say you need it or not, but I have three motors  (two that have superchargers) with just the summit brand regs with no bypass and they run fine.
