Title: fuel system preferences
Post by: Stoye82 on June 21, 2017, 06:30:42 PM
hi,
just bought my first jet boat a few weeks ago ben trolling here for a while but this is my first post
my new boat is a 1990 eliminator formula, it has 2x15 gallon tanks found out this weekend that the electric fuel tank selector switch wasn't working properly so I'm looking at replacing it with a mechanical valve so I don't have any electrical problems in the future. Kinda wanted to get an idea of how anyone else has their boat plumbed or any downfalls to either setup. I also figured while I'm re-plumbing that it would be a good time to add a water fuel/separator, i've tried to find some info on what filter and mount I would need to keep up with the 454 that's in it but i've found no straight forward answer as to what will work for me any help is greatly appreciated

Tanks to valve to a inline fuel filter then water fuel separator, fuel pump to carb

I have that same one on my Eliminator. Mine looks original. The boat's a '76.

My Dually has the same one. I've never replaced that on either, well over 200K on that one. (270K on the truck)

I'd replace it and go boating.

Yup ☝️.... if already has a set up, run it with a new one. If you were starting from a bare build, I would run manual valve(s) and have peace of mind that there is one less electrical component to fail. Maybe buy a spare and throw it in the tool box.

Thanks for the replies, I still think I'm leaning toward the mechanical valve for mainly 2 reasons I could shut the fuel off completely if I had to for any reason and I'm not really a fan of the plastic barb ends on the valve that's on there,  the mech. one I'd put brass barbs. Any info on what water separator you guys are running?
