Title: Fuse
Post by: jimpen on August 19, 2014, 02:32:31 PM
Has anyone had there voltage gauge short out and blow your main fuse.  I had a short that would come and go and I believe I have got it traced down to the gauge. :banghead:

Never heard of that. Sounds like maybe tge gauge is bad and causing a short inside the gauge maybe? What gauges are they?

Not sure of the make as there is no name on the gauge.  The gauge was not working properly and would just peg 18 volts when ignitions was turned on.  I have taken the boat out and had no troubles at all twice.  At big river it last half the first day got it back on the trailer and started ohm testing.  When i got to the gauges it cleared it self, so out we went the next day for 50 feet and blew a fuse.  Put it back on the trailer and checked for a short it was clear again.  I got it home and turn on the ignition and after five minutes the fuse blew.  Started tracing and when i got to the gauges and removed the wires it cleared again.  When i got the boat from Lupo he said that he had this problem a couple times before and could not find it.  He would put a new fuse in it and go.  Ground is good the alternator is good and i want to think it is the Voltage gauge causing the problem.

I remember it at big river. We broke at the same time lol. I would shit can that gauge and tape up the wires and try it. If it works then I would say you are right and it is a gauge
