So anyway...i yank the motor out last weekend and I notice a freeze plug sitting underneath the oil pan inside the boat, after taking out the motor. I pick it up and chuck it in the trash...
About 2hrs ago I was making a list what I need to buy tomorrow to pretty this thing up and I notice a big hole on the side of my block...sure enough it's the freeze plug that I threw away. I stick my finger in and it's brownish orange powder which I assume is the water that was sitting in there for 2 years because the PO never drained it.
Before I took this motor out I made sure it ran. Checked compression and it was 160/165 on all 8. Po told me it was rebuilt 2 years ago at a reputable shop in Palmdale (which is where I bought the vessel) and he spent 4k on it. It's supposed to be 454 .30 over with 3 lake trips on it. According to his story on his last lake trip he became very sick (I didn't want to go to much into his illness) and his buddy had to haul the vessel home where it was sitting there for 2 years.
All he did before selling it was replace the oil, pour some gasoline in and made sure she started.
My question is how do I get rid of the powdery brown rust in my water passages without taking the whole thing apart and getting it dipped??? Trying to make the river season this year.
Any tips tricks? I'm starting on the motor tomorrow.
