Title: gear drive in a jet boat
Post by: 88CARRERA on June 15, 2011, 02:36:01 PM
any reason not to run a gear drive in a jet boat?
i have always run them (quiet ones, still noisy) in all my motors never had any failures. they are pretty bullet proof. opinions?
chris.

I guess be careful of the "cheapy" ones,, I am putting a Milodon on a 621 cubic inch all aluminum engine that I am assembling (that will be turbocharged on E85 fuel).

Do you intend to be making quick cam timing changes or complete camshaft changes between rounds at the racetrack?  If not, then why would you need a gear drive?

Hmmmm...Never had a double roller fail either and you can't here them whine while they work....Had a Cloyes gear drive in my LS7 powered  '75 3/4 ton 4X4 Chevy and the chicks hated it.... :screwy:

IMHO, not much advantage to be had over a standard timing set...The valve timing is a tiny bit more accurate, but on a jet that needs to be under throttle to move at all, I don't think the accuracy will ever come into play...

They whine like, well....They whine. :o
