Title: Good price for DOVE-C's?
Post by: Ford545 on April 30, 2009, 01:11:07 PM
My machinist has a set of Dove-C heads that are freshly machined and have a 3 angle valve job. Are they worth the $400 he is asking?

I have seen a few sets off a fresh overhaul for around $500-$550.  I would say thats not too bad.

makes it easier that way. You can pull the heads and pistons at the same time.

Dove-C heads have a alot higher compression. I am a big fan of compression. Don't get me wrong I had D3VE-A2A heads on my boat for 3 years and never had a problem. Just want more comression for my current build. I posted em in the classifieds for $100obo.

We sell these heads regularly and so I monitor current pricing. The early-style 429/460 cylinder heads (C8VE, C9VE, & D0VE) which are all the same/interchangable, have been fetching about $300 on Ebay lately for bare castings. These heads were used in production for only 4 years, and that was almost 40 years ago.  People want them because they are getting hard to find for some people, and also they were well ahead of their time in regards to the amount of power they can support

If you can get remanufactured assembled D0VE heads for $400 I say jump on it.  I laugh at people who build 600hp-or-less (carbs & gas) Ford engines and use aluminum heads to do it.  From a power creating perspective, the need for the aftermarket head is completely unnecessary.  And with the addition of power adders, 4-figure horsepower is easily attainable with the factory iron.
