That was the right gasket. The part you think is a bypass is the bypass. Oil comes in from that hole in the block, goes thru the filter and up thru the middle of the threaded part. You wouldn't have to trim it around the bypass opening either. I took that bypass piece out of mine, tapped it and stuck a 1/4 pipe allen head plug in it. Have to make sure you don't go too long between oil changes and dont use a cheap filter, then all the oil goes thru the filter and none bypasses it.
