Title: Hardware for Mounts
Post by: SuperJet on February 04, 2012, 11:38:03 AM
I know this topic has been beaten to death, and most use black oxide for their motor mounts. I am using stainless hardware for the mounts to the stringers and stringer feet to the stringers..... My question is. McMaster Carr has stainless hardware in the lengths I need in 18-8 stainless, is this comporable to grade5 steel? Is it less, or better? I now most stainless is like grade2 at the hardware store unless noted. I want to order the right stuff the first time. All help is appreciated.

FWIW, my BBC has ACE/True value speed and marine S.S. bolts in the bellhousing, front 4pt. mounts, feet,  intake to heads, berk intake to pump, bowl to nozzle etc... never had a problem...(no stainless on any rotating parts, driveline, balancer, etc...) McMaster Carr and grainger are better bolts, so I've been told.

Yeah I found a few charts and 18-8 seems to be at or just above a normal grade 5 bolt o the same size so that is what I will be running. And yes at grainger mcmaster and fastenal you can get much better hardware, most times for a much better price ad they have a bigger
Selection to choose from

Funy that's where I found the charts about the stainless' properties. I didn't even look at their prices. Now I need to look. Thanks man
