I'm installing a new harmonic balancer on a Gen6 bbc. Its no going on straight does anyone have a fix, or had this problem?

Forgive my ignorance and worn out eyes, what are we looking at here? Is that lining at the mating surface of the crank to the hub of the balancer?  Is the bolt tightened to 85ft/lbs.?

If I was a betting man, I would say the Chinese Balancer is the issue, not the crank.

It's is a summit SFI approved balancer not china 308$. I've had good luck with them on sbc. But I'm willing to try something dinferent. What one would you recommend. In the pic you can see the gap from the timming cover to the balancer. Thanks for the help

I don't mean to be abrasive about it. Summit does not make any engine parts. They simply rebrand parts from other manufacturers.

Does it say made in U.S.A ?

If it was, would that not be advertised? If I sold it, I would want folks to know. ..

Now. There may be nothing wrong. Have you checked the runout? Grab a dial indicator and rotate the crank and check it out. Might just be an optical illusion.

I'm getting a dial indicator from work tomorrow. Thanks again. The balancer was made in Australia I gave summit an ear full there will to take it back.

I am really not trying to be a dick. I promise.

When someone tells you something is "made in Australia" my instincts tell me it likely only "came from Australia", but was actually manufactured in China or some other rinky dink third world toilet.

Don't get me wrong, that might be a really nice piece. It looks like fair quality to me.

Here is where I have the issue.

When something is said to have come from Australia,  Germany,  Sweden,  whatever,  without proper labeling, it could have come from anywhere. Quite literally. The patent company is in that country and they cover up what the actual country of origin is. It's quite the scam if you think about it.

Pro Comp and Professional Products are the worst.

I deal with this on a daily basis. I do work for some federal government facilities. The products are supposed to be mostly from U.S. manufacturers and made mostly of U.S. components.

All that being said, I have seen great big made in USA labels with the Eagle, Old Glory, the whole bit, stuck right on top of a "made in Mexico" label.

I'm not bashing you for buying a Summit balancer. That is likely a very fine piece. All I'm saying is buyer beware.

Now on to your issue. Have you spun the engine over? Does it patato chip?  If not, I would run it.

Sorry for the bashing, but I just got a reality check on some parts last month that once I did the research really pissed me off that we don't have stricter rules on this kind of crap.

Here's the thing.

Have you ever tried to buy a pair of quality work boots made in USA? Not impossible, but getting harder every day. The problem is, you can't figure it out by price. They charge the same coin whether it's made by a 11 year old kid in the slums of Bangladesh or in San Antonio Texas by a union Cobbler. Absolute con if you ask me. The day I put Chinese boots on my feet to go to my union job here in America, they won.

Rant is now 100% complete, sorry for the thread heist.

What balencer do you recommend? I'm open for anything but a TCI rattler

The rattler is a stupid idea based on an even more ridiculous theory.

You are fine with the unit you have imho.

If you want the best?  It will cost you about the same as what you have, but check out Innovators West.

Bad ass to say the least.

Innovators West makes bad arse stuff for sure!  I've used them on high-end builds.  The crank trigger units they have are amazing. 

Depending on your application it may be overkill, though.  Like running billet steel rods in a 500hp build.  Sure they'll work great but do you really need to spend that much?  Food for thought.
