Title: head gasket

first time out with the boat after about 30 mins realized my motor has turned in to a milk shake. im going to run a comp test tomorrow when i go on lunch break from work tho i have a feeling i blew a head gasket was wondering what head gaskets you all use is there any gasket that will allow more pressure or just a stronger gasket

Do you have any idea how rare blowing a head gasket would be on an open cooling system? Betting on water from reversion on the exhaust or an intake gasket....What motor?

I've been running standard FelPro blue automotive head gaskets with no problems so far.

it passed 30 psi for a few seconds not sure if that makes a difference

just a follow up post the comp test came out fine so im betting either water reversion or i read some were that if u fill the block up with water on the hose be for you start it that could fill the pan and that was done at some point wile working on it hopefully its just that hope to have it back on the lake next week if work allows it

Fill the pan? This information is bunk IMO.

What happens if you turn the water on then start the motor is potentially fill the exhaust system with water potentially fill a cylinder or three...

Let's start over.

Your plumbing should be as follows....

from the jet pump directly to a several turn gate valve.

from the gate valve directly to the front of the engine where there used to be a water pump (if memory serves a BBF)

from the t-stat housing (with no thermostat installed) two hoses, one to an overboard dump fitting approx 3/8" to 7/16" opening and the other to a header control tee, sometimes a 1/2" ball valve will/can be installed directly before the header control valve.

If you over pressurize a Ford, there is an excellent chance you will blow the ends of the intake manifold gasket on the inside of the lifter valley causing the banana delight smoothie... :P

This would be where I would check first.

If/when you pull the intake, it is important that you be sure to seal the gaskets around the water ports in the heads very well. this is the weak link, especially on an aluminum manifold.

I have successfully used Permatex number 2 ( the soft gooey chit), contact cement, Ultra Black RTV and Spray Tack.

How long did you pressurize the block with the stat hoses blocked? It should hold 15-20 PSI air pressure for a damn long time.... ;) Like enough time to eat a sandwich and drink an ice cold beer....Minimum...I have seen them hold pressure for over a week. :thumbup:
