I am getting ready to put my OT's on my boat this weekend and taking off the old logs and I have a couple quesitons about plubming for you guys. I realize they maybe dumb and have probably already been answered several times, but I need to hear it again.

From what I've seen pulling up all kinds of old threads regarding header installation, everybody puts thier own 'twist' on their plumbing jobs but I am looking to keep it clean and simple. I will do my best to describe what I am going to do below, please let me know if I'm on the right track here.

Water in from pump to block with a ball valve btwn to control temp.
Water out from T-Stat housing (port 1) to Bassett T Valve with equal length hose out on each side to headers.
Water out from T-Stat housing (port 2) under motor to back of compartment to ball valve to control water back pressure and after the valve a dump out the back thru the transom.

Does all this make sense? I want to be sure before I start the job.

As you can probably tell, I have never ran anything but logs on a boat so I'm a novis in this dept. :screwy:

that seems to be the norm for the plumbing design...using both t-stat ports for different things...not a bad idea, just make sure your bassett valve is clean and the ball and spring are in PERFECT condition...you never know! im sure someone else will chime in on this, but thats the usual plumbing design.

I Agree with TB. Asked the same question a few weeks ago, and looking at the threads doesn't seem to explain it to me either. What you describe seems to be the norm, but I now have a Sleekcraft where the numbnuts who put the new engine in, in changing from OE TT's to Rewarder OT's, ran no overboard dump on anything. Obviously explaining why the brand new engine only ran 20 minutes. It's a little more compicated than that, and I need to post pics of what seem to me to be the most unusual T-stat housing and Water pump cover I've ever seen on a jet boat.

Long and short of it, I beleive I need to run a releif valve above all else. Still got to figure the overboard dump thing, but I do own drills that can do this, lol. Still haven't figured out if I need to run a thermostat or not. It all seems basic until you really get into it on these things.

Tom from JBP will chime in eventually, hopefully, with the DEFINATIVE answer.

Alright, I think I got the plumbing thing straight. My next question for you guys is would you suggust putting the dump on the back of the boat next to the other port hole (bilge) or would you put it on the driver side of the boat towards the back so you can see it work while you are operating the boat?

Do you think it's just a matter of user opinion or do any of you see a reason one spot is better than the other?

IMO there really isnt a difference, if i had a boat where i would HAVE to drill a new hole for one, id actually do it on the side so i could look back and see it work...plus, i think it looks kinda cool  ;D

Nick when you say "OTs" your meaning 4 tube water injected type headers ? correct ? if so it sounds good Tom

I have a set of Bassett Headers, so I belive my answer to your question is yes.

So I put them on this weekend. The look great! Next weekend I am going to do some re-wiring then I should finally be ready for testing.
