Help.. Where to mount Aeromotive 1000 EFI Fuel pump...
« on: July 07, 2009, 06:13:27 PM »
Ok I am ready to put this engine in the boat and re-rig it. I need to know what is the best place to mount the fuel pump. On the transome (which is almost even with the gunnel tanks in the middle of the tanks) or on the stringer (lower than the tanks). However, I do not have much room in an 18Ft. Nordic Jet boat for stringer mount. Also I do not want to get this thing wet from header weep holes. You can see the build on my link below.
Thanks.

I have the same pump ;D. nice pump haw. i mounted mine on the transom in the middle. It is up about level with the tanks or a little above. It is best to mount as low as possible if your tanks draw from the bottom (mine do) there for the pump will have less work load on it. but if i remember your tanks draw from the top so i don't think it will matter as long as its not way above the tanks.. I have not had mine in the water yet but I have romped it up to 6000 in the driveway and it had plenty of pressure. 60 psi is where its set at. didn't even budge. hope this helps.

Got any pics of your set up. Yes I draw from the top with a large (huge) tube running to the bottom of the tank. My fittings on the tanks are -12 AN feeds. I am only drawing from one tank and made a cross-over (equalizer) to act as one tank.

A good electric fuel pump shouldn't have any trouble sucking up fuel no matter where it's mounted. May I suggest mount it higher than the tanks.  If you ever need to replace or remove it you can do it without siphoning out all your gas into the bottom.

-12, really. thats huge. I drilled and welded -8 bungs at the rear bottom of my tanks and ran a y block to a water fuel seperator then through the aeromotive filter them pump then fuel rail. very tight fit. hard to rig but it did come out nice.
