So im thinking im gonna switch to some ot bassets. Other than the "cool" factor are their any benefits to it.

The motor will breath better than with logs on it.

You should gain some performance from installing a set of headers  :thumbup:  But the best part is the mistery of not knowing when you are going to burn youself again  :o

So true, the first time I took my little brother out on the boat he jumped back in the back to grab something and right as I tel him to be careful of the header I hear the all familiar sizzle, and realized... Uh too late lol

Ha, that's the biggest reason I wanted a cover engine with logs. My pretty clumsy and with the mostly family outings, it seemed like the logical easier way to go. Haha

I guess I'm doing it wrong. Have had open headers for better than 10 years, only list 1 ski rope and a bag of chips on the headers, oh and 2 plug wires. Then again, I dont work on the motor at the river...


I've seen some pics of "cool center riser burns" ,  just sayin'

So what's the best way to fix this? Just weld it up, cut out a piece and weld in a new one or put a patch piece over and weld it on?

If it were mine and I was going for a quick fix I would weld it up. If I was going for a more permanent fix I would graft in a new section of tube and weld in a new bung.

If you weld it up, dot be surprised if you end up chasing the hole around before it fills.
