Hello fellow members, I got a question. I tried looking online but couldn't find a steady answer. I'm replacing my head gaskets and intake gasket due to some milky oil. My question is, do I put some sealant on all head bolts? And if so what type of sealant? Also what's the torque sequence and specs. My other question, do I put silicone on intake gasket too? Thanks in advance guys and sorry if its a dumb questions

what motor? when i assemble heads i put thread lube onto the bolts and i use permatex sealant on the ones that go into water passages. thread lube helps with getting a proper torque rating on the bolts. before all of that ill also run a thread chaser down just to clean up the threads and remove any old lube/gunk.
i put a SMALL dab of silicone around the water passages for my intake manifold gasket. they usually dont require it if you're using new parts, but older stuff has some pitting usually around the passages and its just a little bit of security against leaks.

Will this work for the ones on the water passages? This is what my machine guy said to use.. and what do you mean around the intake water passages, got pics?

i could recommend NOT to use that. pipe thread is a compression fitting... if you look at a pipe it starts small and is angled. as you tighten it, the 2 pieces wedge together and make a seal...

So use the "arp" lube on the bolts with no water passages and that red loctite on the bolts that have water going thru? Sorry

Hey Ka0tic, I couldn't find that water jacket sealant. This is the closest I found to it. Would this work?

Not to high jack, but the permatex is rated for that as well- No experience with it though.

Though I would use what dat1dsm recommended. Also the ARP is good stuff but research the bolt/stud with Arp vs. oil or any substitute as sometimes it is 2 different torques. You can get both on Amazon- Got a prime acct and get stuff in 2 days and Sat. Well worth it- Plus Movies!! ;)

Don't use anything that says "thread sealer" on the tube. Use ultra black...sparingly.

That being said I've seen motors with nothing but Ultra Black, Ultra Grey and as well and they sealed fine, used it on all my triumph race motors. You have many options and they will work-

Didn't get to take it out today. Had problem with intake gasket. The ones I ordered off summit didn't work. Not sure which ones I need. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it. Thanks

for a jet boat you really dont NEED them. but its not gonna hurt anything if you run it open. most intake gasket sets come with the restrictors.

the squares are little metal restrictor inserts. your intake has the crossover tube in it. if you use a gasket with it blocked off, eventually the water will penetrate it. the crossover tube is to warm the intake air when cold to help with keeping a constant air intake temp for smog and smooth idle when cold in a car, and also to cool the intake from the hot oil splashing on the intake manifold from the cam whirling around. honestly with the oval port heads and intake you're not exactly going to notice the difference with it open or not. MOST aftermarket intake manifolds are gonna have it blocked off.

bingo. a small dab of high temp RTV/silicone around the water passages. lube/oil on the head bolt threads and thread sealer on the bolts that go into the water passages.
put in head bolts torqued to 70 ft-lbs in three steps of 40, 55, and 70 ft-lbs in the pattern below (so do 1-16 at 40, then 1-16 at 55, then 1-16 at 70):

I put the heads already the other day. I put permatex2 on all head bolts cus they all seemed to go thru water. On intake tho, I think only 2 thread all way thru. On those little metal restrictors, leave the little holes open too?

I'm at autoparts right now and I'm looking at he part number u gave me and the gasket is different material then when I ordered the marine top end gasket kit. The one I got from summit was like silicone material and the one here at auto zone is like metal/card board material type. Is this fine?

Not to be picky but water does not flow through the crossover. Exhaust gasses flow through there. Yes it heats the carb base to help cold start, but mostly it's an EGR port for emissions, which boats don't have, so yes it should be blocked off.
OP, the cardboard intake gaskets will work fine. Make sure your surfaces are clean, and put a very light coat of silicone around your water ports on each end. Throw away the end gaskets and run a bead of silicone on each end. Let your silicone sit to "air" about 5 minutes before you set your intake on it. Tighten from the center out and don't over tighten the bolts. Torque is 25 ftlbs . I've added a link from Edelbrock that shows the sequence at the bottom. Good luck.
