WWSCJBD - What ignition

Obviously have to weigh the performance vs getting stranded vs ease of on lake repairs.

Thanks!

I've had too much good look with the Mopar parts, so I voted for the Mopar Ecu and Coil. Then again I've only used them in cars, but have had GREAT luck with them. But then again Mopar does have it's own 6AL box now in black lol

I think the majority of us run the MSD 6AL and Blaster2.

So what does the marine version have that makes it so expensive?

From what I have been told it the the same as the 6A but potted in epoxy and has a weathertight connector. I don't think MSD will repair them either since it's filled with epoxy. Also I think it does not come with a rev limiter.

Get the 6AL had great luck with it in my old truck. Pretty good amount of power out of it. Had the 6m in my old jet boat, did very well but lacked some of the pizazz of the 6AL....

My MSD box works real good! Even completly under water! Never missed a beat! It was under water for a good 45 minutes and still works great.

Thanks everyone - keep em coming.

BTW - I missed an option. points with an MSD.. IS that really an option?

With points + MSD, I could bypass in an emergency and run it direct I suppose. Probably overthinking things like I always do...

I would suggest the electronic dist, MSD 6AL (if there is a chance of over rev) and a Blaster coil.  Keep the MSD box out of direct splash and it should last a long time without problems.

If there is a concern about break downs, bring a rope and leave the spares in the truck.

I run Mags. For the price of a dist. coil and MSD you can pick one up off ebay.
An MSD box  sparks for twenty degrees crankshaft rotation, mine sparks for twenty six degrees.

If you're more worried about the water ruining the product than anything else... I decided to go through a "mud puddle" in my old truck, next thing I know the water is as high as the aluminum trim on the side of the truck inches below window level and it's still only in 2WD. I gave her some more gas and got the FOCK out of there. When I popped the hood to make sure all was good the entire box was below the water line and covered in mud. A little perspective: The bottom of the window on that truck was level with my nose, I'm 5'11".

The box was mounted right below brake booster.

God I'd love to run a MAG - to bad I can't afford one (they aren't as cheap for my motor)

OK, it looks like the MSD is the one. I think I'll wire it so I can select the Mopar ECU or the MSD. Worst case the Mopar one will allow me to run the rest of the weekend should the MSD ever die.  Easy enough to see if there is any difference in performance too.

Does anyone have that extension cable they provide with the MSD for the mopar / magnetic pick up distributors they would like to get rid of? It hooks to the green/purple pigtail on the MSD... I figure most of you woudn't need that wire....
