Title: Hei distributor for 455 olds
Post by: Chester on November 07, 2015, 04:50:03 PM
Wanting to change from a points system to hei distributor.  Any input will help. What brand, marine vs auto things like that and what can I expect to gain from the change.

To be honest... On a stocker engine, as long as the distributor is not worn out on the shaft, I'd just put a petronix drop in unit in. It's simple, easy, and inexpensive. Uses your current distributor, and you do not even have to remove it from the engine. The cheapie ebay procomp china hei's are garbage and either electronics fail, or the weights come apart.

What's the model # on the Mallory. I have the dual point Mallory  and the pertronix  works great in that distributor

I used the pertronix kit on my stock distributor and it works great. I'm far from stock as well,  complete Mondello built engine.
