Title: Help...water line routing for exhaust 454

I recently pulled my 455 olds and replacing it with a 454 chevy. The logs on my 455 olds have 2 water hookups on front of log and one on bottom of snail. Now my logs for the 454 chevy have only one water hookup on the front of the log and one on bottom at rear of log and one on bottom of snail. How do I route the water lines now???

Water fitting in on each log, other fitting out from each log goes to the front of the engine in to each head, the two lines out of the thermostat housing go to fitting to each snail port out. Normanly its suggested the lowest port gets the water in the other port out to heads in. Actually they will work either way, make a neater installation and less hoses all over the place. Their are pictures on Glen -l that will show I am sure someone here has one.

So your saying from the jet to the T then to the front of each log and then from the bottom rear of the log to the heads, the from thermostat to the snails? Correct?

Or can I reverse it and put water from the jet to rear bottom of log and have it exit the front of log to the heads? And then from t-stat to snails. Will this work?

Jet to the control valve  ;)  then to the tee, into the manifolds through the bottom, out the front (or top) to the block inlet, out of the t-stat and into the risers....Best bang for the buck... 8)

If you have a thermostat kit, this changes a little, but not too difficult.. :thumbup:

yes...But make sure you run a valve/gate right after leaving pump as a shut down/regulator. Like your olds, chevy needs some restriction of water....I have seen both either crack the head or blow a head gasket. I ran my olds at 180/200 in the summer. I also ran it wide open and cracked a head....

Thanks much guys. By the way the 454 is going into my '74 19ft. Hallet. Jacuzzi jet with hydraulic diverter. Can't wait to get it in the water here on the Colorado river
