Having some issues with my olds when at full throttle it seems like it’s starving for fuel it cruises fine but about 10 seconds after WOT it starts to choke and can’t figure out why everything seems to be working fine that I can think of maybe just a second opinion on what to look for would be greatly appreciated

I had the same problem last year...it ended up being my intake manifold gasket....

Did you end up using the old turkey tray style gasket

No i got the gaskets from mondello and alot of rtv in the front and back...dont use the cork gaskets for it just the rtv....the cork front and backs will push out causing a leak

Does it choke while WOT or after you have let off?
Carb floats are good? Fuel pressure stays up during WOT?
If the cooling water pressure from the jet is too high, it can push past the intake gasket and into the motor. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but since we were talking about intake gaskets as a possibility, I thought I’d mention it.

Chokes out while WOT as soon as I back off a bit it evens back out and runs fine I rebuilt the carb yesterday and checked for leaks around the intake with some carb cleaner while it was running to see if any leaks were detectable but no change in rpm
The carb was pretty dirty so I’ll slap that back in today and shoot down to the lake and see if that helped

Had a similar problem in my Olds 455. Applying full throttle the engine would starve, backing off the throttle it would run just fine. I found out I had a clogged fuel filter. Ultimately I replaced my fuel tank as the original fuel tank was old and had debris in it.

Yea I replaced the filter when I rebuilt the carb and it ran great up until yesterday
Ran her from pirates cove all the way up to Laughlin and it was a champ then on the way back it started with the same thing fuel filter is clogged up inspected tanks and looks like I will be replacing those as well

Do you have the built in fiberglass tanks? If so, those are known to start coming apart and should be replaced.

No they are steel tanks got one out this morning
Now just gotta find out where to find a replacement

Is it the tanks coming part and clogging the filters?
Saddle tanks come up pretty often on here. I'm not sure what kind you have. If they are some sort of rectangle shape, you can have them fabricated to fit the hull.

Yes
I replaced the filter last week took it out to Elsinore and ran fine all day
Then yesterday took that run up river and the bottom of the filter had about 1/4 of junk in it When it started acting up
After pulling the tank and getting the rest of the fuel drained it was a murky rust color and the tanks themselves are pretty bad

Do you have the round “bullet” style or rectangle style?
https://imcomarine.com
Imco is known for marine tanks.
I’m sure you could go to any fabricator and they can make a set if you can’t find the size you need.

They’re rectangular style 48LX10T and the width is a V top7” tapering down to5”
I’ll definitely check them out

I realize im a little late to the party, but if the carb was rebuilt and it seems to work except at wot . It usually then its the fuel pump not being able to keep up with demand. Id replace it. Good luck
