Title: Hey Jet boat gurus - Blow Me
Post by: Legal Chemistry on August 12, 2008, 01:34:13 PM
Well at least give me some advice on how to get blown...   ;D

I saw this kit on craigslist:  B&M 250, carbs, intake, chiller, etc.
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/boa/781386504.html (http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/boa/781386504.html)

Does anyone know who's this is?  What would it really take to get up and running in my BBC?  I have basically a stock '96 Marine Power "hi-performance" 454.  I believe 8.5:1.  GM hi-perf. 990's.  Forged pistons, stock cam, holds 12qts-o-oil.  Currently shy of 400hp.  This looks like a full package deal.  Add bit of plumbing and a larger fuel pump to set it up?  I'd likely run 4# to be on the safe side so I can run pump gas.  Although I know the wife may kill me if she looses her sun lounge  ::)

Any ideas?  Thanks

I think that would look very good on my little ride, but I don't have to worry about a sun deck either.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal, and there is enough people out there that have blower experience that you wouldn't have a problem finding information or parts.

I dont know much about Blowers , but you said the engine is stock. Im wondering what rods you have and if they will hold up with the added HP ?  I would hate to see you blow it up and really piss off the wife  ;D

But i could be way off here,  just my .02 ???

Does it say how much boost it made, whats the ratio (overdrive/underdrive). Personaly I wouldnt run it in an open engine boat (fugly just my opinion) Should bolt up and go with 8.5:1

It might just be me,but seems a little high.
Like HD said swap pulleys till ya get about 5lbs of boost have fun yer motor will be fine.
The roots blowers rev damn quick. If it comes out of the water without a limiter it can get ugly motor damage wise. 5 lbs of boost will give ya the OMG come ta Jesus feeling!! >:D

on a 502 4-5psi.  My engine bay is closed.  I recently saw a closed hatch w/the the shape below.  Yeah that's a fugly illustration -but you get the idea.  This way I would still keep 80% of the bay covered and I can place a scope on top to further cover it up (with a chiller that's gonna be damn tall).  Interesting side note was that the bay was divided in 3.  Each side was a flip up storage compartment and the center was engine.  Maybe it was in HB or???

Just Bolted this (similar ,Wieiand 256 marine blower) on my "family boat" (no chiller but opted out on the dual carbs ,went with a 950 cfm single (boost referenced) My static compression is a smidge over 9.0 Very happy with it 1 and yeah lost the "tan platform"  ;D Tom

REX sells them but keep in mind that they dont float . BDS says you can run up to 7 lbs without having to O ring the heads and your gonna need a blower cam which means new lifters and hope and pray that everything else is up to the task .

High dollar oar deserves the best...put some floaties on it so it won't drown.

Tom, that looks nice.  My ticker is already working away.

With more speed, I have a feeling folks would be mighty surprised to find there is a jet stuffed down there on my boat.  As it is now, I get a laugh watching people follow me on the way to the sandbar.  Once their realization kicks in, it's too late.   :banghead:
