I know this is common but if I hit the gas off idle the engine will hesitate for a couple seconds then it'll accelerate. Whats the usual cause? Should I buy a squirter kit? Thanks

Good question I have the same problem with my hp 950 I was told it could be the secondary squirters or a simple adjustment let me know what you come up with

I am running a 770 street avenger and wanna put my 850 demon on my 460. A buddy told me it would slow down the throttle responce by going bigger some motors like smaller carbs but can also handle a big one. Just what i was told idk havent put it on yet

This is just my opinion , but sounds like it might be to much carb for the motors . There is a mathematical equation ( max rpm times Cubic inch divided by 3465 ) I think gives you cfm and then small adjustments from there I ran a 750dominator on a 10:1 468 big valves heads and about 600* of lift with smaller jets and ran great . Like I said just my opinion . Good luck guys !

that may be I was running a demon 750 with it jetted as big as I could go and was always lean I was told to run a 1050 but didn't want buy another intake the motor is a 496 stoker with rectangular port heads and a 630 lift cam I think the carb needs a good tune mine was installed out of the box

Put a vacuum gauge on it and note the vacuum point where the hesitation is. Change your power valve to match. The squirters are usually pretty close out of the box. After the power valve, I would start playing with accelerator pump cams. Most of the cams have two positions. When you have exhausted those possibilities, step up in squirter size.
Take good notes so you don’t forget what you have done.

Sounds like there is another issue. A larger carb will soften the booster signal (less fuel flow) and a smaller carb will increase the booster signal (more fuel flow). A larger carb will need more jet to make up for that lack of booster signal, not because there is more air flowing through the carb. This is also complicated by the choice of a single plane or dual plane intake. In a single plane intake, each cylinder draws from all venturi and therefore booster signal is reduced because airflow is shared. In a dual plane intake, each cylinder draws through only half of the venturi and booster signal is much stronger. This example compares single vs. dual plane intakes on the same engine with the same carb. Jets will need to be sized accordingly.
If the carb is too small, it will limit peak HP.
