Ran new bbc at Parker with a B&B pan (yeah I know, i'm cheap) and when the engine got up to running temps the engine oil got very thin and was only pushing a little over 5 psi at idle. I was running 10/30 with lucas oil additive. I was thinking about getting an engine oil heat exchanger. Has anyone ever ran one of these? Also, I saw that a bunch of you guys are running 20/50. Is that to eleviate this problem? At higher rpm's the oil psi is fine I just don't want to cook a bearing.

i agree with Ralph, if this is the pan you have it is decent. do you know what oil pump is in your engine?

Mount a mechanical oil pressure gauge near the engine and compare the readings with the electric gauge on the dash.  It might not be as low as you think.

I run both. Mechanical off of my oil relocater and the one on the dash. I always trust the one on the rear by the motor. Seams like it's always 10psi more than the one on the dash.
