Title: How dangerous is an 1100 hp jet boat.?
Post by: AA/Paul on June 06, 2008, 10:32:41 AM
As I'm workin on the Olds my mind is thinking ....what if it doesn't run like I thought it should.
I'm NOT after top end just the 1st 1/8th mile. This winter the pump'll get done. I've got my old blown alky BBC looking side ways at me for messing with an Olds. Yes it put (uncorrected at 5800ft ) 1058 hp to the tire!! This was a mild tune up. Only 12% over on the blower. This has only .600 lift solid cam.

I think it's like a car, it's how much power you get to the ground or water in this case, (pump). I run a 454 8:1 w/ a 671 10% over w/ no problem.

HD do ya carbs or injection? Is it intercooled? If not the snow performance boost coolers work awesome! Staight alky instead of mix is the way to go. We haven't tried spraying the E-85 yet.
Run more timing and boost. O0
Here's a buddies car I tune. True 10" tire 8.13 et 5800 ft

NICE, I'm running two 1050's on gas, 34 degrees. Let us know anything you do or find out about the e-85.

I know the boost cooler works!!!! ZBAD a$$ stuff after turbo 2 stage , about 1 1/2 ft from intake manifold dropped temp down to abient or below. My buddy just converted 2 660 centersquiters over to e-85 for  6-71 , BBC deal. He has my 650 dp's right now for the e-85 conv. It is THE $hit!
Most of the benies of methenol with less corrosion. Cheap at the pump. 2.60 a gal. out here. I will never run premium or race gas in a frequently used perfomace set-up. 8)   I could see if he would do your carbs and how much. I think it's aroud a 160 per carb. He is not a rookie! I think quik fuel has a conversion also. Oh  When he does it it is spacific for your engine combo. Air bleeds metering blocks etc.

Jerry said he thinks my boat is on RRI. I was asking about E-85 cuz a couple guys I know are thinking about it. One has a Kinsler port injection system set up for alky and the other has a blown BBC/ injected

Sheet - put an A4 on the SOB, and fly....

BTW a teenager driving a 16 footer with a outboard merc 125 is way more dangerous.... It's the operator that ratches up the danger factor, not the HP .....

HD....  If they can tune the existing set-up they'll be fine. Let me check but Off the top of my head I think it's 10% leaner. Tell em to go for it!!! Alky/E-85 is very forgiving and makes good power even way rich. Lean is NOT mean!!!

It all depends on the hull, what is yours, ?  I didn't see it listed.  I've had 1,100 hp plus  in our family ski boat for yrs and have had a blast, but it's a bit more tame than a Blown BBC.

Kona hull.  rookie pilot
HDrider...... (I'm tempting ya ...)  Your leaving at least a 100hp lurking in your bad ass
mill.  Colder intake temps, hard to detonate, more timing. Start 3 ranges colder on the
                 plugs. ::)

If it's hard to crank or not spinning over fast enough....
Wire starter and ignition separate. Get motor spinning then hit the ignition switch.

It's got a Mag, I spin it up first. Never had a problem till i put in this new Optima battery. I think the low voltage hammering screwed up the starter.
