Looking for advice on a 74 Rogers thru transom set up
« on: June 01, 2017, 08:23:59 AM »
I have a 74 Rogers Bonneville that I have been working on for a little while now. I just installed a BBC, and am using Nicson logs and snails. The issue I'm having is the snail outlet height is higher than the holes in the transom , meaning the offset is pretty severe and bending exhaust hose isn't an option . I know I have options, you guys know best.Thoughts and ideas or a turned down set of snails may best the answer . I currently have a set of flat top snails that seem to be had to find and I would really like to use.
Thanks

Pictures? I'm sure someone who has experienced this will chime in!

Never saw your original post. Logs have different primary lengths to accommodate through hull or OT pipes. Some logs are pretty long near the flange, and some are short. This is to give more of a downward or upward angle. You need to look for a set of logs that are longer near the flange so that your snail outlet is lower on the transom. Post a pic of your logs with a tape on it. Maybe someone has another set that would fit your application better. Hell, someone may trade you straight up. You never know.

Do you see in the pic how the primaries are longer at the front of the engine and shorter at the rear? You need a set that are shorter at the front and longer at the rear. Btw, this set came off of a boat with OT pipes. Not snails

The exhaust tube with the metal spiral is able to bend. Maybe a muffler shop can custom bend or weld up a small piece of stainless to put in between log and thru hull tip?
