Title: I blew it up... UPDATE
Post by: el mojado on June 01, 2015, 06:50:45 AM
Cruising at 4000 rpm at Silverwood. Then with no warning, a loud KERPLUNK! Engine wouldn't turn over. Put a long screwdriver on the drive line to turn it but it would barely budge. I can hear parts rattling inside when i did that. Oil pressure was about 60 psi. I had just glanced at gauge before the KABOOM. Ranger towed me in. Much thanks to him! After I got the boat on the trailer he came back and to help me go to thr beach where all our beach crap was at. Fun day... I'll keep you posted on what I find.

All this bad crap has got me gun shy. I might just leave it on the trailer.

Total bummer. But man we were having a great time. The wifey had such a great attitude about it. But i was on fire inside! Lol. But, we were safe. Nothing catastrophic. we'll be back on the water soon.

Update.... pulled carb and found chunks and a piece of a piston ring. Ok. Not good. Pulled intake and exhaust. Found more chunks. Looked down one intake port and found huge chunks of piston stuck between valve and seat. Then i found what i think caused the damage. A piece of one half of a valve retainer sitting next to a valve spring. Stuck my finger in number 8 exhaust port. Valve head is gone. And I'm sure thats the piston that is all over the intake ports. Valve kissed the piston. Any reason why retainer failed? How bad can the rest of the engine be damaged? Engine failed immediately. There was no warning sounds. Just a KABOOM and then shut off immediately.
