So I was out on Elsinore sunday and the engine started popping like crazy. I cleaned the points and it was ok for a lap but started again. So over these things. I have a 460 with a Mallory Dual point Distributor. What are my options to convert it to pointless? Really don't want to replace the entire dizzy. Not looking to make more power I just wan the damn thing reliable.

Best option in this case is a pertronix electronic ignition module that goes directly in the existing distributor. Super simple to install and very reliable.

Excellent. I use to run the Pertronix in my old VW 009 distributors. they worked well. Glad they make one for the Mallory. I'll pick one up.

I converted my 455's dual point accel distributor with a Crane XR-I module. It was cheaper than replacing the points and condensor. They didn't have the exact kit, but it only took clearancing the heat sink a little to clear one screw. It has been working great so far...knock on wood. I have about 20 hrs on it so far. The kit was about 65.00. It also has a built in rev limiter. BTW - Pertronix wanted 300.00 to build me a custom kit.

I would still keep the points and condenser in the boat. The points can be put back in to get home if the pertronix ever fails.

X2 of what Ken said. I had the Petronix one for 7 years got a new one it lasted one trip. Great cheap ignition setup but keep the points setup around and avoid getting towed in.
