I need a new engine for my money pit. Last trip to the river she said uncle. I tore it all down it's allready punched 30 over so now im gonna have to go 60 unless i can find something quick. I wish i would have found this forum sooner cause tomorrow i drop off the block and heads/crank to get checked. Anybody?

Call Skip's Precision Marine in Redlands CA. I asked him about a couple 455's he has at the shop. One is a blower engine with Edelbrock aluminum heads that the owner cant pay the bill ($10,000). Another one is a short block with a lot of new parts and all the machine work done ($3,000).
Ask for Skip 909-798-5586
Hope its not too late.

would love to have a blown olds......sweet...i dont have 10 k though, but maybe after the laughlin if the dice are good to me!!!

Thanks for the info, I havn't decided if im going to stay with the 455 or go with a 454. The maching shop said its a waist of money to rebuild what i have now. So it looks like i will be out of the water the rest of the summer, O'well. Gives me time to find or build something with more horse ;D power. Giddy'up

My Olds was punched 60 over, oil restricters in crank and cam bearings, balanced, flowed the heads and valve work, middle size cam, torker intake with a over sized holley with reworked smaller fuel jets, mecahnical fuel pump,
7 quart oil pan, Berekely pump with an A impeller and she will run 5000 rpm without any problems and this is my 3rd year.

don't know much about olds motors but this seems pretty cheap

It could be another basket case like i have allready, Besides it looks exactly like the motor i was watching last week on Ebay that sold for around $1000. Could have been more but i lost interest in watching it, but thanks for looking out for one. The more eyes the better ;D

Do you know what broke lose in your motor?

Do you know what broke lose in your motor?
Nothing broke loose, it just took on alot of water in the pan. I figured a head gasket from what i hear its pretty common, so i pulled the heads and the pistons seemed a little sloppy so i just y
anked the whole motor. tore it all down found out i had two cracked heads. So i just stopped everything until i find a set of heads.
I am still confused the person before me said they built it up with a cam and .30 over pistons but they put on "j" heads (small valve/smog heads) I really dont think the guy new he was just choking the motor out and waisting money at the same time. O'well
Hope you have better luck with your rebuild. Im on hold for the season :(

I would suggest you give Timminator here a call. I had a long talk with him yesterday about similar problems and he convinced me that a 455 properly built is not such a bad thing. If you are not looking for blazing speed (6000+ rpm) it is a perfectly viable option to anything else. If you change you need to figure in costs and time for new exhaust, mounts, intake, misc. hardware etc. That stuff adds up fast and if you need to buy it used it may take awhile to find it all. You might also keep checking on www.realoldspower.com for engine parts you might need if you go that route.
Besides Chevy sucks, everybody knows that. 8)
