So I'm almost finished building my 79 omega. But one big dilemma. I'm using regular log style exhaust for my olds and the exhaust tips in the transom sit about 6 in higher then they should. They are also 4in tips. You can see where the old tips used to be I just don't want to cut and patch. Will it be a problem if the tips are a bit higher then the snails ? Will water wash back into the motor ?
In the picture I'm pointing at a circle where the 3in tips used to be.

Anyone ?

I would think the only problem your gonna have is the transition from the snails to the tips. The purpose of the snail is to help keep water out. However if you shut off your motor while moving along at a good pace there is always the chance for water to rush in. That's my uneducated guess

im a fan of "do it right"
my isssue would be the mickey mouseing you're going to have to do to get a 6" rise and a 4" hose into the exhaust. exhaust hose doesnt bend. also your exhaust and log will be sitting lower than the tip so this means the engine will have to push all that water out of the back of the boat over a 6" hump.
id either lower the tips and plug the existing holes with transom hole covers or get an exhaust setup that will work with that placement.

I have transom hole cover plates I'm selling cheap. Hit me up if interested.

the only problem with OT headers is I have 2 little boys and I'm going to be covering the motor. I guess my main concern is it will be able to push the water out the back

Best bet would be to get the exhaust that fits the holes already there.
