Title: I spoke to soon!!!!!!!
Post by: 2savage4you on May 14, 2009, 04:10:24 PM
Im probably gonna catch hell for this but................ My boat runs like shit..

Just when you think you are going in the right direction and find out you should have left it alone..........

Ok i went from having to much pressure and a good running boat to not enough pressure and a boat that runs like shit....

I installed a electric pump, a Holley red to be exact. Im running two tanks into a water fuel seperator and then into my fuel pump and into the carb.
Fuel pump mounted on the transom.

Fuel line running to carb with a inline filter all -8 fittings and hose.

My fuel pressure :screwy:

in my southwind, this is how it is set up....

the 2 lines come out of each tank and go to an electic tank selector switch valve and feeds into one line

then into a fuel/water seperator

then into a electric fule pump

then into the mechanical fuel pump

yes, theres 2 fuel pumps....no sure why....some might say the electric is 'priming' the mechanical  ???

i have no pressure regulator or gauge....i have no idea what my fuel pressure is....which does bother me and i plan on replacing the fuel line at the carb with a braided line/AN setup with a NPT port for a gauge to see where im at...and put a regulator in line as well.

I called the parts house (checkers) and told them it was not working, they said Holley has a warranty so bring it in and we will exchange it..

I told them im done with Holley and want my money back..........

I got the famous last words, bring it in, we'll see what we can do :sly:

So tomorrow is another day of the 2sav saga 8)

Gonna order a reg and put the old pump back on.....................................

2Sav, I never ever use the Holley Reds for the above reason, I have a Holley Blue on my BBC and it is regulated to 7 PSI, the fuel pressure never fluctuates and it has run pretty good even with a plugged fuel filter (bad fuel when I got it).

The Red pumps are normally only good for about 5# of pressure, perfect for a stock engine in a car, not up to the demands of a hard running overcarbed Big Block IMHO.......

Sorry for your woes...again....still :sly:   ;D  Sorry, had to ;)

on my kona im running 2 tanks into a T fitting to combine them,

Then into an aeromotive fuel filter

Then into the pump,

Then into another aeromotive filter

then into the fuel/water seperator,

then to the regulator,

then to the carb.

I know that it may not make any damn difference at all but maybe put the fuel/water seperator after the pump and see what happens. Its easier for the pump to push fuel thru the seperator then it is for it to suck it thru.

Both tanks are ran to a "T"
(https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi223.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd269%2F2savage4you%2F003-9.jpg&hash=e455649db519ec3b0653890a3ad64874a757f807)
 then to a water/fuel seperator.

Pay no attention to the electric POS on the transom... Its been removed ;D
Then to a Summit fuel filter.

Then into the fuel pump.

then into a Aeromotive reg....
Still waiting for it to arrive :sly:
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=AEI-13205
then into my carb.
(https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi223.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd269%2F2savage4you%2F003-11.jpg&hash=9c53e887ceb12b3dda42b77eee734db3e4caf240)

Im starting to have my doubts about this fuel gauge, it seems like it fluctuates ALOT...

I get it set for 7psi and then it starts dropping to 5 ???

I dont know what im doing wrong but i think im going to replace it for a better gauge

Don't worry about the GD guage, if it runs, and runs at speed, F-it and have fun! You're the only person who over analyzes shit more than me, STOP IT!

Say it isn't so.  Your 100% done ???  This just cant be true.  Are you sure you don't want to take it back a part to resand the bilge or something ?  You did install the new loader bearing, right ?  And are you sure the steering turns the proper way, some folks around here have issues with that, so I hear.   >:D

JK, Steve.   Good luck getting it wet, and take lots of pics !!!!

Yes, i think so ;D

Although i did see a leak in the intake, i should probably pull the engine and re'set the intake.... Just because.......

Loader bearing is installed and heavily greased with KY :o

The steering is set up for high speed passes only.......No right turn or left, just straight. So point me in the right direction and im good to go O0

Now why is it everytime i see a thread on "steering" i think of B-rad ???

Pics ???

thats funny cause im filming a documentary :D

As long as your going to reset the intake, you might as well set the pump back.  After all, "how hard can it be" .   ;) ;D
