Title: Ideas or Options ?

so i bought this mallory promaster coil and its nothing like the old bullet type that was on the boat. so im tryin to figure out where to mount it? it says DO NOT MOUNT TO ENGINE...so i thinkin because of the vibration..
but mounting to the trasom just seems to far away. so i was thinking of makeing a bracket or something and mounting to the engine with some kind of insulating deal... any ideas or options would be grate

can you mount it to the dog house or does the whole thing come up?  If not there then to a bracket off the stringers.

yes dog house comes all the way out . hmm to the stingers ? isnt that a little or alot low ? i mean i really have never swamped it...but what if i do ? that would kill it wouldnt it ?

this is what i was kinda thinkin...i know its on the engine....but if i made a stand off braket and insulate some how would reduse vibration mabe....mabe not ..

it all depends on the insulation if u use rubber itll shake it like a paint shaker with the give and any cloth material would possibly burn a nice aluminum bracket on the dog house might look nice maybe ask sandeggo to weld ya one

not to burst your bubble but if it says not to mount to engine dont! your just askin for it to cut out and leave you in the middle of the lake somewhere. just a thought.

Simple enough to mount it to the doghouse with it's supplied bracket. Pops off the bracket with 1 screw, lay it on the engine then remove the doghouse. Could also wire it using a 4 pin trailer connector so simply unplug it, pop the wire off the dizzy and leave it on the doghouse when you remove it.

Problem with either of those solutions is no way, really, to run it with the doghouse removed, which would bother me greatly.

Don't know on yours, but both my cruisers had the batteries mounted to the stringers on either side of the pump driveshaft. Could quickly and easily weld a vertical plate off the top of one of the hold downs to mount it to. Be pretty close to your dizzy, and if it gets THAT swamped.......I think you'll be giving the "abandon ship" order......  ;)

thanks guys...i think im gona go with the dog house mount as "mobboss and ray' have advised ..
and then when i can fab up a nice good looking stringer bracket...although i dont have battery box there...but i do have my home made stainless rails that i could bolt up the bracket 2  :thumbup:
