more 454 ? bore

ok so i bare blocked the motor when i got home from work last night, looks great!  i am going to be able to hone and ring. the bore apears to be 4.235 is this right or are my measurments wrong??? what rings do i buy?

Your measurements are way off...Let the machinist tell you what you need....Even if it were a 402, your numbers are wrong.Should be 4.250" if a 427 or 454... :thumbup:

It is my humble opinion that you should just bring it to a machine shop and have it honed to a known spec. The reason is that a machine shop will hone it to the proper clearances and give you the right finish with the proper grit stones and will also check the bores for straight. This should cost very little. Assuming you are going to use a dingle ball hone and will not know the exact measurements of the cylinder from top to bottom, I personally think it will be money well spent....

An example would be a Sunnen CK10 has an amp gauge on it and will actually read where the cylinder is "snug" and he can fix it right then and there....Have I ever mentioned I hate doing shit twice? :banghead:

It's up to you, but I am unlucky when it comes to going half way.... :thumbdown:

BTW I am not trying to push you into doing anything, just my personal opinion...(read; "it's not my money")

well my line guys at work (ford) said they would do it for me so when i say "I am" i mean them. but now you have me thinking. maybe i should just drop this shiz off at the machine shop and let them do it. has anyone on here done this them self? trying not to spend money. again this motor was running no problems

I am a bad example...Yes I have done it myself.....On my dads CK10.... :sly:

You could have your buds do it, it would just be nice to feel confident about it as far as I am concerned...

Spend the little $ it is and have the pro's determine if its good or not....

But then again thats why we have a "project section"  so build it blow it up and build it again ;D

Im all for ''do it yourself'' but when it comes to the block I agree with GT spending a little $$ right now will save alot down the road, plus you wont have that little voice in the back of your mind saying ''oh chit I wonder''

Cmon you guys no that voice.LOL

I always leave the machine work to the machine shop and  was a machinist at one time. Plus they can check everything else and I would take my crank, and rods in have them checked also, Just adding a little peice o mind on the water, cost should be around $400-$600 depending what is done,Just my .02$
