What ignition coil are you guys using? I am building another 454. I bought the MSD HVCII which was a little spendy for the 496. I have the MSD 6AL box to use with the new 454 which will be around 500HP.
I am looking at the MSD Blaster SS coil which I can mount anywhere and anyway for $50

This Pertronix looks awesome and has more voltage than above by 20,000 but comes is 3 resistances and I dont know which will work best with the 6AL

Or should I just stick with the old Blaster2 for $35 bucks locally
http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=MSD8203/424.
The $$$ isnt a huge difference but what would you run and why??

I bought the SS Coil from a friend at the Kragen's for $34.00 the MSD sight says it will produce 48,000 and I can mount it anywhere in any direction.
So when I get home I rip it out of the package and engraved on the plastic case is............
MADE IN CHINA
Jesus even MSD which is based out of spick hating, honky tonkin Texas gets there shit made in china.
I might take the damn thing back

I am running the HVC 2 Coil. The square blue one. I have had no problems so far!

Don't get hung up on advertised secondary voltage, the spark plugs will draw only enough voltage to fire them, based on load. The MSD Blaster is fine for all but the top 1% of jet boat motors. Hi boost/blown, and nitroused above 250HP plate might need more. My 14-71 blown/intercooled, rollered,Dart headed 565 works fine with a MSD 6M box, and Blaster II coil at 11 lbs.boost. Anybodies electronic ignition(even stock) has more voltage output than the old mags that were used in the 60s on Top Fuel motors! TIMINATOR

Well the thing that sold me on the SS Coil is the 300Milliamp output compaired to the 145milliamp of the Blaster2
