Title: Ignition help!
Post by: thechallenger79 on May 21, 2016, 04:41:26 PM
So i have a 1979 Challenger Jet with a 460 ford in it and it still runs on points. I've been looking to switch it to electronic ignition and have searching the web for conversion kits. I've found "electronic conversion kits" from mallory and pertronix but I've also found "points eliminator conversion kits" from ACCEL and Mallory, my question is what's the difference, is there a difference? Which should I go with??

I've got a stock 460 in my boat. Had points but converted to pertronix 1281 with a flamethrower coil and works great in my boat. Only thing was I had to drill a hole in the unit base cause it didn't fit exactly. Other than that it's been running for 2 years no problem

Thanks, it was my understanding that I don't need a new distributor for the boat, just needed to get the kit. I'm not really looking to race the boat or anything. My question was the difference between the "electronic ignition conversion kit" and the "points eliminator kit" and what all would I need to replace the points?

Conversion kit = points eliminator kit.
