Hey there, I'm installing an alternator on my float today... Didn't come with one. I have a single wire 105 amp marine atl. It doesn't come with any paperwork really so I need to know if wiring it to the constant hot on my battery selector switch is correct because I have dual battery system? Also, does this atl. need to be grounded or is it done internally already? Thanks!
Ah, one more thing... Is 12 gauge wire good enough from atl bat. post to switch?

If it is a 1 wire it gose to hot wire off of the battery or starter cable so that way it doesn't matter what battery it running that's how I have mine set up. No need to ground it unless the brackets are new or have been powder coated cud then the alternator can't get a good ground here's a pic I found online

12 is a little small depending on the length.

#8 wire is best. No ground. Just one wire. Just finished my install this morn. Lol

Seriously! I've been wondering some history on this boat... It's been quite the road of struggles to get reliable since I picked it up in Feb. I found this site because of sticker between the swim steps, was that your doing? I'm leaving it on and glad I found this!!

How long did you have it? Drive has an American Turbine Energizer Kit on Panther housing now... I'd like to msg you later when I have more time and ask a few questions if you don't mind.?. Biggest issue I'm having right now is taking on water under sub floor and haven't found leak. Maybe from around grate or housing??

double check the bolts around the pump. my panther's "box" was damaged when whoever installed it before me overtightened the bolts, thus crushing the fiberglass and creating cracks for a leak. it wasnt noticeable while sitting but im guessing while underway the force of the water creates the leak between the hull and pump face (theres just a little foam gasket to prevent leaks). After the pump was removed I reglassed the area, and fortunately I was able to find a "plate" from a member on pb/rdp named CaS that helped spread the load of the bolts rather than just the washers.

I have a plate also. I had to pull it while motor was out to cut a notch for grease fitting to bearing. I siliconed all bolts when I reinstalled. Could it still be getting in around that area??

Finally have alternator installed and wired. I appreciate all the help!

Looks good .. nice job.. have you tested the voltage coming off the alternator yet? You may want to check the voltage as it's running at the battery to verify you are getting 14.x volts.
