Title: installing motor help

I have a 1976 rogers bare hull.  the inside of the stringers measure 22 3/4 inches.  The other boat I have measures 26 inches from the inside.  I took out the motor out of the other boat to put in the rogers.  The L shaped brackets total of 4 don't mount in there.  Can I just drill new holes to make this fit? 
With the L shaped brackets on the motor mounts measures 26 inches.

Any pictures mine is 23" 3/4 then the rail kit is inside of it.
