Intake Bolts
« on: March 22, 2010, 09:04:12 PM »
Has anyone else had this problem? I ordered a Intake bolt kit off jegs and the bolts are too short. I cant seem to find the right ones in a kit anywhere. Im just looking for some chrome or coated bolts. The ones I bought are an Inch and a quarter long and a couple grab maybe 2 threads and a few dont even thread up. I have stock heads with an Eldelbroke Performer 2.0. Any advice?

Yah, thats my next option. I was hoping for a whole package deal to get it over with though. Anyone know how deep the threads go into the heads? Id hate to get 12 bolts that are too long.  :screwy:

I used the SS ARP bolt w/the 12 point heads are they are MORE than long enough.
And they work really good on chevy exhaust logs.

3/8-16 X 1.5" long. Ace Hardware carries chrome and stainless, I think Homo Depot has Zinc plated stuff.

Home Depot carries stainless steel nuts bolts and washers.  Whenever I need to replace one I just take it in and use their handy dandy bolt sizer thing to make sure I'm getting the right one.  Spend the extra dough and you will be better of in the long run.

1 1/4" would be the normal length for a BBC intake manifold, unless it's a tall deck.  You didn't say anything about what your engine is?

Its not a tall deck. Just a BBC with edelbroke intake. I have the thicker gaskets, but they dont make that big of a difference.

Would the 18-8 Stainless work or do I have to go to the 316  stainless?

There are some china cheap ss bolts out there.  If I were you I'd take a little magnet
along and see if the SS bolts stick.   If they do don't buy them.

its not the chinese that make the SS magnetic. if there is nickel in it, it wont be magnetic ( i.e. 300 series)  but the 400 series stainless will be magnetic.

18/8 is essentially 304 grade stainless. 18/8 stands for 18% chromium and 8% Nickel. the tensile and yield strengths of 316 are far superior to the 18/8. if it isnt much more expensive i would just go with the 316
